The picture below is of Andy Cronie, the ploughman from Balneil in charge of his pair of horses, at a ploughing match. Andy was a skilled man with the plough and highly regarded by his peers.
The man leading the horses is John Adams from the Cruise farm at New Luce. He was also a noted ploughman in the district
Cruise farm had its own Smithy and my husbands great great grandfather was the Blacksmith there in 1851. I imagine these would be the sort of horses he would deal with. Lovely picture.
