    My further research revealed this…
In the Glasgow Herald 02 January 1894
” Man Killed on Railway near Glenwhilly- On Saturday evening a Surfaceman named Alexander Gordon, was walking on the railway near Glenwhilly Station on th Glasgow and South Western Railway, when he was overtaken by the 8.30pm Express train from Stranraer to Glasgow. The driver of the train reported at Barrhill Station that his train had struck something and this was communicated to the officials at Glenwhilly. A search was instituted and the man, Gordon, was found lying between the rails about a mile and a quarter from the Station…” the gruesome details of his injuries followed in the article. He was conveyed by train to Ayr where he died next day.
Does anyone have photos of Miltonise Railway cottages where Alexander lived. There’s no sign of them today. Some trains used to stop on a Saturday at the cottages to take railway wives for shopping in the town!

Good to hear from you June but it is sad connection to New Luce/Glenwhilly. The folk in the History Club do not remember hearing of this accident but one member tells us that his great grandfather was platelayer (foreman) during that time. The old railway cottages are just ruins now.
